Released for the games that never was – Mey Highland Games 50th Anniversary. Located in Thurso, this is the northernmost distillery on the UK mainland. Wolfburn distillery opened in 2013. Caithnesians and regular visitors will doubtless know of Wolfburn’s association with the wonderful Mey Highland Games, an annual event hosted by HRH Prince Charles – himself a visitor to the distillery last summer. Just like previous years a special bottling was planned – and then Covid-19 came along and scuppered everyone’s plans, which was doubly sad as 2020 was to have been the 50th anniversary of the Games. Rather than be defeated Wolfburn decided to cock a snoop at covid and press ahead with the ‘postponed’ special release. Crafted from spirit matured for six years in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, it’s a wonderful wee drop of whisky. This release was bottled for the Mey Games on the 3rd August 2019. One of only 550 bottles.
