The Deerstalker brand was first owned by J.G. Thomson, an Edinburgh wine and spirits dealer. He registered the name and label with the characters of a Deerstalker in 1880, just five years after the trademarks came into being. The offices of J.G. Thomson were in the harbor of Edinburgh (Leith) and became known as The Vaults. The building has survived to this day and is now home to the Scottish Malt Whisky Society. Exports were made from the Vaults to all corners of the world. The brand then changed hands in 1994 and trades today under The Deerstalker Whisky Company.
